About ING statements
OFX (Open Financial Exchange) is an XML-based format designed specifically for exchanging financial data between institutions and personal finance software. Originally developed by Microsoft, Intuit, and CheckFree, OFX is the standard import format for Quicken, Mint, and many other financial management applications. ING PDF statements use DD/MM/YYYY dates and European number formatting where commas are decimal separators and dots are thousands separators. Statements are available in Dutch (Betaalrekening, Beginsaldo, Eindsaldo) and English. Our parser detects the language automatically.

The account currency, EUR, is written into the OFX CURDEF tag. Because the account is in EUR, not USD, the file header declares UTF-8 so accents and umlauts in descriptions survive. The OFX <NAME> field is cut to 32 characters. The longest ING description prefix ("Periodieke overboeking") takes 22 of them, leaving 10 for the merchant or counterparty.
ING statement details the parser handles
- Numbers follow the European 1.234,56 convention (comma-decimal, dot-thousands), so '3.850,00 EUR' means 3,850.00 euros — easy to misread as 3.85 if treated as US format
- Detection is deliberately strict: the parser requires either the IBAN substring 'INGB' or the standalone word 'ING' (uppercase with word boundaries) plus a banking keyword, to avoid false positives on 'banking', 'opening' or 'closing'
