About N26 statements

N26 statements are downloaded from the N26 web banking portal at app.n26.com or the N26 mobile app. After signing in, open the account, go to My Account or Documents, select a month, and download the PDF Kontoauszug. The language follows the app's language setting — users with German UI receive a 'Kontoauszug', users with English UI receive a 'Bank Statement' — and the underlying layout is identical. N26 retains roughly ten years of monthly statements online.

The PDF opens with the 'N26 Bank GmbH' header, the IBAN in DE-format, and the statement period written either as 'Statement period: DD/MM/YYYY - DD/MM/YYYY' or 'Kontoauszug: DD/MM/YYYY - DD/MM/YYYY'. A summary block lists the opening balance ('Opening Balance EUR 1,500.00' or 'Anfangssaldo EUR 1,500.00') and the closing balance ('Closing Balance' or 'Schlusssaldo'). Transactions follow as single lines containing a DD/MM/YYYY date, a description, an explicit sign character, the literal string EUR, the amount, then EUR again and the running balance.

ConvertStatement's N26 parser handles both language variants via a single regex with alternation, applies US-style number parsing (1,234.56 — this is an N26 quirk — not German 1.234,56), masks the IBAN, and runs a balance reconciliation pass before emitting CSV, Excel, OFX, or QBO suitable for QuickBooks Online, Xero, Wave, or DATEV import.

N26 statement format at a glance

N26 (N26 Bank GmbH) is a Berlin-based neobank that issues bilingual EUR statements in PDF form. Each transaction line has the layout 'DD/MM/YYYY Description [-/+]EUR amount EUR balance' — for example '15/01/2026 REWE -EUR 45.00 EUR 1,455.00'. Statements come in either English with the header 'Bank Statement' and labels 'Opening Balance' / 'Closing Balance', or German with 'Kontoauszug' and 'Anfangssaldo' / 'Schlusssaldo', and ConvertStatement parses both variants. The account identifier is a German IBAN beginning with DE followed by 20 digits, and the period is written 'Statement period: 01/01/2026 - 31/01/2026' or 'Kontoauszug: 01/01/2026 - 31/01/2026'. Although N26 is German, statements use US-style number formatting with a dot decimal and comma thousands separator (1,234.56), not the German 1.234,56. ConvertStatement converts N26 PDFs into CSV, Excel, OFX, or QBO for QuickBooks, Xero, and DATEV imports.

Known N26 parsing quirks

These are real layout details that make N26 PDFs different from other banks. Our dedicated parser handles each one explicitly so the exported CSV, Excel, OFX, or QBO is always correctly signed and dated.

  • Bilingual parser: recognises both English ('Bank Statement', 'Opening Balance', 'Closing Balance') and German ('Kontoauszug', 'Anfangssaldo', 'Schlusssaldo') section headers in the same regex
  • Despite being a German neobank, N26 uses US-style dot decimal (1,234.56) — not the German 1.234,56
  • Currency is written as the literal string 'EUR' twice per transaction (once before the amount, once before the balance) rather than the € symbol
  • Account number is a German IBAN starting with 'DE' followed by 20 digits, extracted and masked
  • Like Revolut, runs a balance reconciliation check (opening + sum(transactions) vs closing) and logs mismatches

Multi-line handling: Strict single-line transactions: regex demands date, description, sign, 'EUR' literal, amount, second 'EUR' literal, and balance on one row.
