About Barclays statements
Barclays UK Current Account and Savings Account statements are downloaded as PDFs from Barclays Online Banking or the Barclays mobile app under Statements and Documents. Personal customers can request either monthly e-statements or paper-equivalent PDFs covering any selected period, identified at the top by the 'Barclays' wordmark and a 'Current Account Statement' or 'Savings Account Statement' heading.
The account block uses the classic UK pair: 'Sort code: 20-32-45' followed by 'Account number: 73829164'. The statement period appears as 'Statement from 01 January 2026 to 31 January 2026' using full month names, while individual transaction rows switch to the shorter DD/MM/YYYY format. Balances are bracketed by 'Balance brought forward £3,245.67' at the top and 'Balance carried forward £5,011.90' at the bottom.
The ledger has five visual columns — Date, Description, Money out, Money in, Balance — but in the underlying PDF text each transaction collapses to a single line with two pound figures: the unsigned amount and the new running balance. ConvertStatement reconstructs debit versus credit by comparing prev_balance ± amount against the new_balance within a 0.01 tolerance, so the exported CSV, Excel, OFX or QBO file always has correctly signed amounts.

Barclays statement format at a glance
Barclays UK Current Account and Savings Account statements use the date format DD/MM/YYYY for transaction lines and full month names (DD MMMM YYYY) in the header line 'Statement from 01 January 2026 to 31 January 2026'. The currency is GBP and every amount is prefixed with £ in US-style number format (1,234.56). Each transaction row contains five fields in order: Date, Description, Money out, Money in, and Balance, but only the relevant out or in column is populated, so a parsed line shows two pound figures — the unsigned transaction amount and the running balance. The account is identified by a 2-2-2 sort code such as 'Sort code: 20-32-45' plus an 8-digit account number. Opening balance is labelled 'Balance brought forward £X,XXX.XX' and closing is 'Balance carried forward £X,XXX.XX'. To convert a Barclays PDF to CSV, Excel, OFX or QBO, upload it to ConvertStatement; debit and credit are reconstructed from the running balance with 0.01 tolerance.

Known Barclays parsing quirks
These are real layout details that make Barclays PDFs different from other banks. Our dedicated parser handles each one explicitly so the exported CSV, Excel, OFX, or QBO is always correctly signed and dated.
- Header reads 'Statement from DD MMMM YYYY to DD MMMM YYYY' with full month names (e.g., 'Statement from 01 January 2026 to 31 January 2026')
- Sort code is 6 digits in 2-2-2 form, e.g., 'Sort code: 20-32-45' — combined with 8-digit Account number
- Money amounts are unsigned and always prefixed with £; debit vs credit is reconstructed from running balance arithmetic (prev ± amount = balance) within 0.01 tolerance
- Opening/closing labels are 'Balance brought forward' and 'Balance carried forward' (not 'Opening/Closing Balance')
- Transaction lines always carry exactly two £ figures: the amount and the new balance — there is no separate sign column
