About Citi statements
Citibank statements can be downloaded as PDFs from citi.com under Statements (or 'Documents' for Citi Personal Wealth Management accounts) and via the Citi mobile app, with several years of statement history retained online. The header reads 'Citibank' or 'Citi', and the account is identified by an 'Account ending in 1234' string rather than a fully masked long number. The statement period is usually written 'January 1, 2026 through January 31, 2026'.
Citi credit card statements use a four-column transaction layout — Trans Date, Post Date, Description, Amount — and are organized into clearly labelled sections: 'Payments, Credits and Adjustments' (sometimes 'Credits & Payments'), 'New Charges' (sometimes 'Purchases' or 'Transactions'), 'Fees Charged', and 'Interest Charged', closing with an 'Interest Charge Calculation' table. The sign of each amount is implied by the section header rather than printed on the line. Citi checking statements use a simpler Date | Description | Amount | Balance layout and mix MM/DD and MM/DD/YYYY dates within the same statement.
ConvertStatement parses Citi PDFs deterministically in memory, distinguishes Citi from Citicorp using a negative-lookup in the detection step, keeps the Transaction Date as canonical, flips signs based on the surrounding section, and exports CSV, Excel, OFX, or QBO files that import cleanly into QuickBooks, Xero, and Wave.

Citi statement format at a glance
Citibank (Citi) issues credit card and checking statements in US dollars using a mixed MM/DD and MM/DD/YYYY date convention within the same PDF, with amounts formatted as 1,234.56. Credit card statements — Citi Double Cash, Costco Anywhere Visa, AAdvantage, Premier, Custom Cash — always print two leading dates per transaction row (Transaction Date and Post Date) before the description and amount. The body is divided into sections labelled 'Payments, Credits and Adjustments' (or 'Credits & Payments'), 'New Charges', 'Fees Charged', and 'Interest Charge Calculation', and the section header decides the sign of each amount: credits are forced positive, new charges are forced negative, regardless of how the raw number is printed. Account numbers appear as 'Account ending in 1234'. ConvertStatement parses Citi PDFs in memory using deterministic regex, keeps the Transaction Date as canonical, applies section-aware sign normalization, and exports clean CSV, Excel, OFX, or QBO files ready for QuickBooks, Xero, or Wave.

Known Citi parsing quirks
These are real layout details that make Citi PDFs different from other banks. Our dedicated parser handles each one explicitly so the exported CSV, Excel, OFX, or QBO is always correctly signed and dated.
- Detection requires 'citibank' literally or 'citi' alongside one of account/statement/card AND explicitly rules out 'citicorp' to avoid false positives
- Section headers control sign: 'Payments, Credits and Adjustments' / 'Credits & Payments' force positive (absolute value); 'New Charges' / 'Purchases' / 'Transactions' force negative
- Credit card rows carry both Trans Date and Post Date — Trans Date is kept, Post Date is discarded
- Mixed date formats occur within a single PDF: some rows MM/DD, others MM/DD/YYYY
- Account ending preferred form is 'Account ending in 1234' producing a '****1234' mask in the export
